Elephants
In the foothills of Kulen Mountain, lies the Kulen Elephant Forest (KEF), 1100 acres of protected forest inhabited by the former elephants of Angkor.
For 22 years, these elephants had given rides to visitors in the temples of the world heritage site. Today, they are retired in their natural habitat and are living testimony of a changing world.
As Cambodia’s first and only ACES (Asian Captive Elephant Standards) certified facility, we take pride in offering world-class care to our residents, as well as contributing to local conservation, capacity-building, research and community support.

A Happy Retirement
Our primary mission is to provide each of our residents with a happy and healthy retirement. This includes top-tier healthcare from our network of experts and specialised providers, as well as routines designed around their physical and mental wellbeing.
Setting an Example
Retiring the elephants of Angkor was a major transition in Cambodia’s perception of elephants’ roles in society and culture. We hope that this transition will help inspire elephant owners across Cambodia to look more towards the ethical model as real alternatives.
Providing Support
Kulen Elephant Forest participates in a number of initiatives designed to support causes with shared values. Whether this is behavioral research with the School for Field Studies (SFS), pioneering medical operations, supporting local forestry, and collaborating with the government; KEF strives to help wherever we can.
